Charlotte’s Letter to Africa as part of the Letters to Africa series:
Dear Friend,
I hope you are doing well.
I am part of the Pencils for Africa group, which is an educational program that works to change the narrative of Africa by teaching about it’s cultures and peoples. I am so excited to write to you!
My name is Charlotte and I am thirteen years old.
Two of my favorite hobbies are sports and reading. My favorite kind of sports are tennis and volleyball, I also play basketball and I used to play soccer. In my opinion, the absolute best books are the Harry Potter series. Have you read the Harry Potter books or heard of them?
What kind of sports do you play?
I am from Belvedere, California. It is a small town near San Francisco. I go to a small school called Saint Hilary. We have 250 students in all and in my class there are many more boys than girls, which can get pretty chaotic.
Are you originally from Kenya?
I’m really curious about the differences between where you live in Kenya and where I live in California. Do you have a lot of homework from your school? What kind of songs and books do you like? Do you play sports? What are your favorite things to do? What are your favorite foods? I’m eager to receive your letter and hope that you enjoy mine!
Sincerely,
Charlotte
